Emery To Set up Plastic Additives (Oleo Specialties) in Asia.
Dr. Kongkrapan Intarajang, Group Chief Executive Officer of Emery Oleochemicals Group, a joint venture between the. PTT Chemical PLC and Sime Darby Plantation, revealed the company is expanding its Green Plastic Additives capacity (OleoSpecialties) widely used in PVC, and other types of plastics processing-aid. The investments of US $ 30 million with capacity of 20,000 tons per year in Malaysia to be completed by middle of this year, and it will be the first factory in the Asian region to manufacture this type of Green Plastic Additives.
In addition, the company is planning to expand its OleoBasic production capacity to serve as the intermediate for Green Plastic Additives. The current Worldwide demand for Plastic Additives is up to 10 million tons per year, with 6% growth average, and indicative price ranging from U.S. $ 2,300-2,750 per ton. Such increase mainly driven from high volatility of Palm Oil price in recent months.
Dr. Kongkrapan Intarajang further elaborated that Emery Oleochemicals Group is also studying plans to expand current Green Plastics Additives production facility in Germany as well.
At the moment, Emery Oleochemicals Group's product portfolios are segmented into two categories, OleoBasics and OleoSpecialties. OleoBasics consists of Fatty Acids, Fatty Alcohol, Glycerine, Triacetine and Methyl Esters with, which serve as main ingredients for household products such as soap, detergent, shampoo, and cosmetics. Whereas OleoSpecialties, includes Green Plastic Additives, Green Oilfield Chemicals and Ozone are being used as high-performance lubricants in specific applications.
For example, Emery Oleochemicals makes and sells Green Oilfield Chemicals which is the only chemical of its kind to have been approved by the US Environmental Protection Agency. The current production capacity is ranging between 10,000 to 20,000 tons per year, depending on customer's demand.
