DJ Emery Oleochemicals Plans To Double Asia Production - CEO
KUALA LUMPUR Emery Oleochemicals Group, formerly known as Cognis Oleochemicals, plans to double its Asian production capacity to around 650,000 tons a year, its chief executive said Monday.
The expansion plans come after it had recently completed a restructuring exercise last year.
The firm plans to set up a 300,000-ton fatty acids plant which will be completed in 2-3 years, Kongkrapan Intarajang told Dow Jones Newswires ahead of an international palm oil conference here.
This would double the firm's production capacity in Asia. Emery Oleochemicals has a total annual capacity of one million tons worldwide. About a third of its volume comes from plants in Asia.
A major oleochemicals company, Emery Oleochemicals is 50:50 owned by Sime Darby Plantation Sdn. Bhd., a unit of plantation company Sime Darby Bhd (4197.KU) and Thailand-based PTT Chemical International Pte. Ltd., a subsidiary of PTT Chemical Public Company Limited. (PTTCH.TH).
Intarajang also said the company will put a specialty acids plant into service on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur that will be completed in the first quarter next year. The plant will have an annual capacity of around 15,000-30,000 tons.
Intarajang didn't want to reveal estimated project value for both plants.
Emery Oleochemicals produces oleochemical products ranging from fatty acids, glycerine to plastic additives, of which are then used to make soap, cosmetic products and in oilfield drilling chemicals.
